Oh friends, it has been awhile since I’ve blogged…or feel like I’ve had time to blog. 2017 came and we have blown right through the first month and a half. So much has happened this year already.

  • We celebrated Christmas and NYE in Argentina with friends and family.
  • The Mr. went to London for work. We visited my family.
  • Kids headed back to school for the 2nd semester.
  • I partnered with some amazing friends and helped throw a big oily gathering.
  • The Mr. let me tag along his work trip to London.  #ilovethebrits
  • The biggest of our kiddos is turning 8 this month, and just 2 2/12 weeks after, the littlest (in age only!) turns 2.
  • Oh, and we’re going to need to figure out a new name for this blog because there are going to be six Millers soon! 😍

Yes, you read that right! We’re in the process of adopting the sweetest little 2 1/2 year-old girl from the DRC – Congo. We can hardly wait!

Recently, we were made aware of sweet Miss O (Miss O is not her actual name 😉) via a mutual friend on Facebook. I contacted her and asked for some information and proceeded to talk with the agency that represents her. Fast forward a couple of weeks and some other family decided to proceed; but then for reasons unknown to us, backed out.

But HERE is my favorite part of our story – of Miss O’s story. Yesterday I contacted a couple of friends to vet the agency further than just their agency website, fb reviews, and 3rd party non-profit “watch-dog” ratings. While chatting with one particular friend who also has Congolese children via adoption but NOT via our agency she asked, “Can I ask who you are adopting? I was just wondering because there is the sweetest little girl that we have specifically been praying for the Lord to find a home for. I actually have a picture of her from a year ago. Her name is Miss O.”

I sobbed. “We’re adopting Miss O.” I had never even spoken to her about our openness to adopt again, let alone from the Congo.

Friends, if this doesn’t encourage your faith, then I don’t know what will. The sovereign God who created the universe is also watching out for sweet Miss O thousands of miles away in the DRC. We’ve had confirmation of stepping out in obedience to this tug in our hearts in multiple ways. The previous example just being one of them.

It’s funny how life has a way of coming full circle. How God is so involved in the tiniest details of our everyday lives. Remember that beautiful refugee family you all so generously helped us clothe and provide for a couple of months ago? It is no coincidence that we got a chance to love them well. It’s no coincidence that their family is Congolese-Ugandan…seeing as our family will be part Congolese-Ugandan. Our choices and actions weave our everyday story and can either knit us a little more closely to others or allow us to unravel.

So What’s the Time-Frame?

Honestly, we’ve been told 6 months to 1 year. But if you know anything about adoption, you know to make a plan but must stay flexible. The plans always change. Sometimes for the better and well, sometimes there are big challenges that arise; but the reward is so worth it.

How You Can Partner With Us.

So we can keep the adoption rolling, we are working to raise half of the costs and will foot the other half personally. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I thought we could send a little love to Miss O.  I made this chart with 200 envelopes numbered from 1 to 200. You choose a number, and that’s the amount you donate. For example, if you choose envelop 53, you’d donate $53. If we fill the chart, we will raise $20,100 – half our costs! I will update the graphic at the end of each night to show what numbers have been selected.

Step 1. Look at the graphic below to see what number is available (if a number is gone you want to donate, that’s fine too!).

Step 2. Click on the Donate PayPal button below and send the amount OR if you prefer, you can send a check to us. IF for some reason the button doesn’t work, you can send PayPal (friends and family) to millerram@gmail.com . It will go to the same spot.

Step 3. Leave a comment for Little Miss O. I’ll record them in a Journal for her.

Today With Zeke

Last week was a whirlwind. Our family flew opposite directions across states. Fall break happened. Board summits commenced. Meetings kept us going. It was cRAzY.

But today, today was just an ordinary day at home.

Up early. Breakfast. Get dressed. Make beds. Scramble to get everything together and out the door in time for the bus. You know, just the usual morning routine we all go through.

Yet lately, I’m finding so much goodness in the mundane after the whirlwind. I’m learning to live for these days. Days when I can linger a bit longer playing blocks on the floor and drinking coffee. Days when a home project is welcomed. Days when there is absolutely NOTHING on the calendar. I’m finding that BUSY = PRODUCTIVE is quite often a lie. Not that there aren’t seasons of busyness; it just doesn’t necessarily equate to a better or more fulfilling life. Smore’s with neighbors and kids jumping in piles of leaves is what I’m longing for these days.

And speaking of seasons, FALL is here ya’ll! The leaves are vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. The air is crisp. My coffee is strong. It’s plain glorious!!! And you know what else is glorious?  I woke up this morning and realized that I hadn’t taken Zeke’s 1-year pictures. He turned, um….19 months yesterday! That’s not glorious. But the fact that TODAY I said “No” to all the things on my to-do list and headed outside to capture this sweet boy’s smile is.

Oh by the way, Mini-Boden has the BEST kids clothes. They hold up FOR-EVAH and have a 365-day guarantee moms! I am in loooovvvveeee with these red cord overalls. You’ll be seeing him in them at least once a week this fall and winter.

Zeke’s Favorite Things These Days:

  • Chuggington
  • Giving Hugs
  • Dancing
  • Looking at himself on a phone or in a mirror.
  • Hiding in closest and cabinets.
  • Running across to his best-bud “Reeder’s” house.
  • Eating. ALL THE THINGS.
  • Pretend laughing. (I so wish you could experience this!)
  • Making animal sounds.
  • Simultaneously trying to hold his 3 favorite stuffed animals walking around the house.
  • Holding hands while praying. (We did this one evening and it just stuck.)

What Zeke’s Wearing:

Overalls: Mini-Boden / Shoes: Converse / Hat: H&M / Shirt: Target

Zeke

It’s happened. There’s silence (sort of…I have a Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey podcast going) in the house. I have already managed to clean the house, get laundry done, upload images from yesterday’s session, pay bills and it’s only 11:21.

Praise.

But here’s why. One day a week Zeke attends the best MDO preschool. Really, I love this place. And he is ready to play with others. His best peep across the street is even in the same class. So when we arrived for his first day he was all, “Later mom. They’ve got Goldfish, tons of toys, and my friends.”

Naturally, I will try to fit my entire week into the 6 hours I have. It won’t eve work. But I’m stubborn, so I’ll keep trying.

And oh, here are his obligatory First Day of School pics.

Lauren + Chris | Van Alstyne, Texas

Chris grinned from ear-to-ear as he first saw Lauren under the shade of and old oak tree on their wedding day. As they leaned in for a kiss, a little giggle emerged from behind the tree.  While the first look is typically bride and groom only, their nephew managed to get a front-row seat. It seemed only fitting as family and the closest of friends were such a huge part of their day.

Lauren and Chris exchanged vows in a quaint white chapel on Rustic Grace Estates. Chris’s Uncle and godfather officiated the ceremony and sang Ave Maria a cappella. A candle was lit in memory of loved ones. There wasn’t a dry eye in the chapel.

In true Texas fashion, friends and family toasted and danced the night away in a charming red barn – outfitted with chandeliers and a huge sliding barn door. And yes, bar-be-que and sweet tea topped the menu!

Lauren and Chris, I hope your wedding day pales in comparison to how good life is for you 10, 20, and even 30 years down the road from now. I pray that laughter and family always be present in your marriage regardless of the road life leads you down. Thank you so much for trusting me with capturing your beautiful day. It. Was. Perfect.

Yes.  It’s that time.  The first day of school has arrived. This crazy transitional summer was full of fun and work, so I can’t say I was sad that this day finally rolled around.  I sniffled, did a few cartwheels, then got to work!

This year was a BIG back-to-school year for Team Miller. Zion started second grade at a new school, and Zoe started Kindergarten. The little guy is the only one home with mama.  So far, he’s loving it.

Zoe could barely contain herself. Starting “big kid” school AND getting to school this year was going to be different than anything Zion had previously experienced. Getting to school involved riding the BIG. YELLOW. BUS. I mean, c’mon! Don’t worry. I went to school to take all the obligatory “first day of school pics.”

She’s practically bursting at the seams. I love everything about this picture. All excitement. Pure joy.

2016-08-09_0001

And this guy. When on earth did he grow into a boy?! Not a little boy, but a BIG boy! 2016-08-09_0002

Zeke ran to join the two bigs on the porch when he saw the camera come out of the bag. He doesn’t miss a chance to “ham it up!”

Right here. This picture contains my favorite four people in the whole world. It’s one of my most favorites to date.

Couldn’t love these little humans any more. But I can’t lie, I’m glad the school year is back. 😉
